When is Oak to old to use

Postby wombat » Sun Feb 22, 2026 7:23 pm

I have some French Oak and some American oak dominoes that are 3/4 yrs old I reckon
What age is to old to use
Been stored in those plastic sip bags - but in shed - it gets to 40/45 C in summer

My way of thinking is if they haven’t been used they should be ok wood is wood, but I’m happy to be corrected. I used to cart logs and for the life of me I couldn’t work out why we had to load em at 3am when the Bldy things had been standing for 10 years :angry-banghead:

I use same dominoes multiple times. Like prob six you strip rechar/toast i dong botter they have different effects with each usr imparting a slightly different flavour with diminishing vanilla and tannins each re use..

Did they go moldy with the temperature swings and being in plastic? If not I would use em.

Dry them, char them and reuse them till they are nubs :handgestures-thumbupleft:
As Bluc says, they will get to a point where they are doing nothing
