Medium American oaks

So, this stuff has been on 2 of Mac's American oaks since the 6th feb in a 200g coffee jar. Started off at 60% and now measures 30%. Tastes alright, but obviously quite light in colour. It's a TPW wash btw. What should I do next? Persevere longer, add more staves? What's the ideal starting abv to end up with 40%? It's quite drinkable by my standards but I could be a hillbilly no problems... :teasing-tease:

Can't say I've aged tpw but loosing 50% of your abv is a big hit, I hope you left alot of heads or your good hooch is being wasted.
Was it sealed? I'm guessing not. When I age in jars I have a sealed lid that I remove for a night once a week/fortnight when I remember. That way you allow the angles a taste but they can still drive lol

That's a huge drop in abv, I store mine in glass jars with a lid that is definitely not sealed in any way and don't notice much or any drop.
Are you sure your starting abv was correct?

i lose about 3% abv from my wbab that is 18 months old... i just have the cap sitting ontop of the bottle to make the angels work a little for their share..
your abv drop does seem like a lot!

Now I'm wondering if I actually started with 40% :think:, that would be a little more acceptable...my new experiments are definitely 60%, so I'll see how they go. Cheers.

Sorry to hiajck but would you expect the alco meter to read correctly after oaking, i have been told that it might not

i may have been drinking, but noting this stuff is key.
i write on the bottle with texta and delete it with new spirit when i refill....
just a thought!
