Where to get dominoes.

Postby SX170 » Mon Sep 07, 2020 5:22 pm

I bought a couple kilos of medium toasted American oak dominoes as part of a group buy on here a couple of years ago.
Where is the best place to buy them now? As I am nearly due for more.
Cheers.

I think I have answered my own question.
5 star seem to have them at a pretty fair price.

Hey mate,

I use there tank staves for wine and spirits and they are next level. Could only imagine what the oak products especially for spirits would be like.

The run of the mill classic American is about $90 for 10 of the 910mm long staves, the high extract series is about $110 so I’d say the “high proof “ would be a little more. A little pricey but if you got someone to split with that’d be the go.

Hard to go past the 5 star dominoes at $20:00 a kg. Especially when you consider that most of us oak at 7 grams a litre so $20:00 investment is enough to do 142 litres and then you can retract them if you want. I looked at all sorts of options and then did some maths and thought why am I even considering using an unproven product to save such a minuscule amount of money. Especially when you consider the time it takes to get the hearts and you don’t know it was a failure for 12 months.
FSD dominoes have never let me down :)

Hmm the smell of American oak.

$48 a kilo in Ipswich.
No wonder this thread says go to 5 Star...

I don't mind a bit of dark charcoal bitterness, darker whiskey. But others like the light char whiskey, yeah pale as.
