Hey guys, I've found a used oak barrel for sale "to suit ageing spirits", but has been stored for 6 months with a salty brine in it..... Is that a "done thing"? Or will the salted oak kill my rum??

Id give it a miss :snooty:
alc picks up flavours too easily, pour a measure of rum and add a little salt to it, see how you go :teasing-tease:
Unless you want to take up pickling as a hobby too lols

Ever wondered about the term "pickle barrel" ?

Apparently when you pickle stuff you can age it on oak for a flavour boost too - so much of the old ways are falling to the sides these days
