Oak in NSW / Sydney / Newcastle

Postby oddian » Fri Nov 03, 2023 8:38 am

Hi,

I'm really enjoying oaking some of my products, Rum, Whiskeys and Brandys, but using chips just feels a little like using Oak teabags rather than properly aging my moonshine.

Where do you NSW folk source your oak from? Does anyone know a good source to get the oak raw so I can play with toasting and charring it myself? Buying staves is fine but they are pretty expensive and most of the toasting is already done for me which is not what I want.

Thanks in advance

Thanks mate, I did find this already and I've love to buy them from you but, they are already toasted, already cut to size and your postage is killer to NSW I'm afraid and I'm not local to you.

I always get the pre toasted 5 star products. Super reliable and consistent. I would hate to wait 2 years only to find my toasting was not consistent or correct so that I had to redistill and start again.

When you are using 10g per litre a kg of dominoes goes a long way. The dominoes make dosing pretty easy too. Buy a few bags (plus whatever else you need) and it'll last you years.

We dont set the postage, talk to Australia Post.

Not a bad idea mate, I'm on the northern beaches if that helps.

Yeah mate I know, not having a go I understand for sure. I'm just starting out so trying to keep the costs down until I'm clear on what I'm doing and I can make the best use of the product.
