Charred vs. Toasted Oak

Postby Brendan » Sat Jun 01, 2013 6:55 pm

Hopefully there's no problem me posting this link here...but I found this experiment conducted by Pintoshine and thought some of our members could really benefit from it.

He tested both toasted and charred oak in the same amount of distillate, and provided smell and taste tests.

Very interesting, and keep in mind that Pint had been opposed to toasted oak a couple of years previous to this experiment.

Enjoy :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Good to know, thanks Mac.

I haven't used charred yet...just trialling some toasted that Linny gave me (Thanks mate :handgestures-thumbupleft: ).

Prob going to put down a sour mash whiskey and age in 2 separate containers, one with charred & one with toasted...expecting a stronger bourbon bite to the charred which i dont like, but others do :D

Thats a good link Brendan, probably one of the better out there, Newbies can learn a lot from it regarding stick size and how to toast and char, Also what the end results should look like.
Not sure if you need to be a member of AD to see the photos though.
Personaly I like charred in UJ , Toasted in Rum.
