Gallon jars back in stock

Postby Arismac » Mon Feb 11, 2019 5:53 pm

I have a dozen of these which I purchased when Target said they intended to discontinue, but they are back in stock. They hold 3.8 litres (one US gallon) which is just about what the T500 produces on a single 23 litre wash. Manufacturer is "Anderson & Co"

I grabbed a few 5 litre mason jars from Ned's a while ago and they do make for great aging vessels. No tap though and not really need as I just decnater into a 2 litre beaker and cut down to 40%. Rinse and repeat until it's all gone. Off memory they were about $10 each too

Hi Arismac,
I saw these at my local target and wasn’t sure on the tap plumbing... are they ok sitting in alcohol?

I asked my local pharmacist about this and he said the fittings are not plastic but a molded nylon. Beyond that I don't know.

Looks like you could easily replace the standard tap with a stainless ball valve and silicon seal.

I got 2 of the larger 7-8L ones a couple of years back when the we’re selling them, I swapped out the tap with a stainless steel one from eBay, was easy as and I love them

I 'phoned my pharmacist mate and he assured me that there is no plastic used in the tap seals. He explained to me that I had misunderstood. They are molded silicon fittings NOT plastic.

Ikea do a 5.5 L one with silicon seal and stainless tap. About $18. Ikea online for those that can't get to the store. No need to stuff around replacing the tap or seal. Silicon is good quality too, doesn't go white went bent.

I pay about $15-20 for my 5L demijohns. These ikea ones sound like a much better option for the same price, with a SS tap...
Awesome !!

I got all these at Ikea recently. The 5.5L (Forfriskning) has stainless tap and lid as mentioned. The 3.3L jar has glass lid with silicone seal. Or a clip on polypropylene lid with silicone seal. The other 2 are just nice for pouring and doing dilutions etc.

It's from a Chinese website that I'm not able to post on here. I'm really happy with the quality and it was a good price. They've also got 2 L measuring cylinders too.
