IBC cooling

Postby vossy » Sun Oct 27, 2019 8:13 pm

Hello Legends,
For those use an IBC for cooling. Do you treat the water to stop it turn green?
Mine is in the shed and as it gets warm after a run (35 deg today) it is essentially a growth pond for bugs and algae?
What’s everyone else doing?
Cheers

I've been using one of the sort of see through white ones for years. Bit of growth around the edges but mostly still clear.
I also do nothing to it.

I haven't added anything to mine for awhile. I used to put a small bit of Chlorine in to help kill anything growing.

Use these, really cheap and work a treat! Get em from your local rural supplies store.

You could add Sodium metabisulphite to make a 1% sanitize solution, this should last a couple of years.

Problem with adding to cooling water chemicals that they may corrode metals in your cooling coil.

Even with green walls of algae on my IBC, the meter reads 30 ppm from rainwater stored for weeks.

I wouldn't worry about it, but borax can help with algae.
