Have we taught you nothing? Thats all part of the fun! TPW is very forgiving and doesn't mind if you've had a few when putting a ferment down. :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

My last few TPW runs have given my 90-92% product.

I ferment in 60l bins (about 50l at a time) using 10-12kg sugar, tablespoon of DAP and 3 tablespoons of tomato paste. I'm using Lowans bakers yeast. It takes about 6 days to run out.

I'm running a 50l keg with about 40-45l of charge. I'm tossing the first 600ml and running it fairly slowly.

Once watered down to 45%, the product has a very strong bite to it ... it's not what I'd call neutral.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong???

Are you making any cuts other than the 600ml fores/heads cut?

Righto... Read this - viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2859&p=40598&hilit=Cuts+guide#p40598 - 3 or 4 times, and see how you go. Remember, quality not quantity.

Airing your cut jars for 24hrs removes quite a bit of the 'bite' your talking about. I've also found letting it age in the bottle for a cupla weeks smooths the product out. Since splitting into 250ml jars I find it easier to pick the heads/ tails. This was the biggest step forward for my product yet

Are you running this through the bubbler with the packed section? if so something is very wrong.
A still like that should be producing 92% + with ease.
Id be interested to know what your take off rate is.

Something wrong here too, Even at the tail end of a run a bubbler should be producing much higher abv than that, That is provided it has sufficient reflux.
Maybe i will come back later, I dunno were to start here. x_x

I did a run of this yesterday, following the recipe exactly. Got to SG 990, before I ran it through the pure distilling rig. I eeked out about 1850 mls (at average of 94% ABV), before I was into the tails section of the run, which I ran for another approximately 420mls (finishing about 83% ABV).

I let the 250 mls cuts air for 24 hours, and decided to keep about 800 mls mixing about approx 100mls of heads (jar2) with I considered the hearts - the rest went to feints carboy. Probably aggressive cutting. Not so sure? After another day of sitting, definitely can tell its a lot smoother that the filtered turbo, just a little bite at the back of the the throat at the moment with some little sharpness. Will let it sit for another week, and try it again.

Why did you put heads back in to the hearts?

Simply because I have been used to the taste of Absolut Vodka drunk neat for so long now, that hearts only vodka seems to 'neutral'. I will get there, just need to step it down a bit at a time. 8-}

So does everyone do a stripping run ? or a single run thru the reflux?

I strip two 25 liter TPW in my 50 liter keg .(Usually ends up about 2-3" below the spout in the keg ) I strip all down to 20% .keep the lot ,fores, heads hearts tails
Then run this through my VM reflux. This is where I can extract all the nasties before the good stuff .Reflux still removes fores and heads so much better than pot still :handgestures-thumbupleft:
