Wellsy THAT isn't the plant, now when SWMBO gets home I will ask exactly what the plants name is so we can be sure. The licorice root plant has rounded leaves and only a 10th of the plant is above ground. Now it grow under ground for metres and if left the root when green can be upto 10mm thick but it does shrink a tad when drying.
Now when it crushed most will go to powder but some fluffy stuff will be created so I just slice it up with a sharp pair of scissors and include it in the batch.
Cheers Bryan

The Licorice Root I have has "Glycyrrhiza glabra" printed on the label.
Interested to see if anyone else has any other varieties out there.

that pic of the corona mill is a very close copy to the one I have, mine has a black cover to sit ontop so the product falls but it does clog up with some stuff.
Cheers Bryan

Lol
I love Mexican food.
Licorice root takes 2 years to grow to harvest according the internet machine so won’t need the mill for that for a while

I haven’t got one yet Bluc, was just reading up about it.
The missus found some seeds online. Given all the work to grind it up after a 2 year wait for it to grow she also looked online for some powder and found some $38:00 per kilo but I am unsure on postage.

You may need to get a Backhoe as reports that gets very long roots.

OK Bryan
I am ready to give this one a go now as my licorice root powder and NEW STILL have all arrived :-D
For the anal retentive like me, and to get this in the tried and proven, I am guessing we might need to tighten up the measurements used.
I will be looking for the full flavour experience so will be going with
2.5 litre spirit at 50%
50 grams licorice root
2 star anise
half a stick of cinamon.
all ground up in a spice grinder ( I purchased my licorice root as a powder cos I am smart :)) . Stir each day for a week. dilute back to 50% then run through a pot still as a normal spirit run.
Is this your recommended way Bryan ??

Thanks Stig
Will be using my triple distilled vodka as a base.
Fitted up my boiler glass for yesterdays run and it is very nice to see what is happening in the boiler. Having said that now I want to see what is happening in the column, looks like the I am going to need to find a lot more dollars to get a bubbler happening. My theory is it will cost the same as a tropical fish set up, be just as relaxing, and produce more than fish shit at the end of the day. I just need to convince the minister of finance lol.
Now off to the pantry for some herbs and spices

Wellsy if all your going to produce is fish shit mate :laughing-rolling: there will no need to get into SWMBO's panties to get the herbs and spices :laughing-rolling:
Now with only going 2.5 litres then with 2 star of anise it may over power the licorice root so personally I would go 1.5 at most so cut one of the stars in half and go with 75 grams of the licorice root.

you are 100% correct, production of fish shit will certainly not get me into SWMBOed panties, I was actually off to the Pantry, but now you have put the idea into my head perhaps I could present the argument to purchase a bubbler or as an alternative she and I could explore your idea further, my money is on the bubbler purchase :laughing-rolling:
Need to head to the supermarket tomorrow to get the required spices

Mate your better off going to one of those health food shops, paying a bit more and getting fresh herbs rather than buying shit made in China which would have flavouring on it just so it smells like the real thing :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:
