Evening crew
I just ran my first stripping run for the WBAB i put down on the 19/11/21
Starting SG was 1.090 and it finished up at .990 with an ABV of 10.5%
Loaded the airstill with 4L wash and collected down to 20%.... I got just over 1L
Does this sound about right for a WBAB?
im used to turbos and normally pull about 1.5L from a stripping run.

Hi guys
Im looking to get my 2nd gen started tonight, ive saved some backset from my stripping runs which i will heat up to 30 deg before adding to keep the yeasties happy
Question is do i need to remove any of the sludge? and what do i need to add in the ways of weetbix etc for the 2nd gen ferment?

Nope, I just added a few more weetbix, and suger and let it rip. The Angel made good work of the weetbix, the enzymes took them apart and did not leave much. Go slow, mine truned out subtly smootrh and nice, different still but 4.5 litres at 80% is great.

It looks evil compared to an all sugar wash, only difference I made to the recipe was 25g yeast instead of 50.

I strip run it first chipboy as I do this one in a 220 litre cherry barrel. The recipe is a guide and I have scaled up but not sure exactly lol. It’s a packet and a half of both the weetbix and all bran ( Aldi home brand ) and 30 kgs of sugar.
I then run the low wines over my 4 plates and it usually comes off at 89%
This recipe is very forgiving and I have started added a tin of malt extra to the mix, will bump it up to 2 tins next time.
Given the volumes I brew I don’t need to do this very often lol so still have plenty on hand to share.I have not tried the generations and whiskey option so can only go on what others have said

Hi Wellsy,
By adding the malt extract to the mix, are you putting this on oak trying to get a whisky or trying for a flavour to your vodka?

Looking to add a little more to my vodka. Had some vodka in Vancouver that was super smooth but with a very light sweetness to it. I know that one has malt in it as well as wheat so seeing what 2 tins will do. Don’t forget this is a 200 litre wash so it is a small amount in the scheme of things. If I go to heavy with the malt I will just tell everyone I was trying for a light whiskey and put it on oak lol. Got to love a hobby that gives you options :)

Wellsy, intersting, I took mine off at 90+ and it has washed too much flavour out. Still has warmth and is quite smooth. Would like a bit more so will do it at 80 next time. 200 litres, ,thats a shedload of it.

The measurements are really loose at that volume lol.
30 kg of sugar, packet and a half of weetbix and all bran, half a packet of bakers yeast and a tin of malt extract.
So I am a bit light on the sugar. I use raw sugar but that’s where it ended up.
Initially I did stripping runs then 2 spirit runs through the pot still ( before I had the bubbler ) and I have done 1 batch over the 4 plates. Plates make it much smoother but strip some flavour. Still got plenty next but I might even go back to 3 plates. Love this recipe for a vodka base :)

I made up this wash its SG was 1.074 and finished at 0.96 FG. It fermented out in about 7 days and I raked it off today after a further 5 days of settling.
This is/was the 1st generation. The wash has an apple cider kind of aroma and taste but it is dry – not strong (not pineapple) and no floaties other than a few bits of bran, colour normal.
1) Is this normal or more likely an infection?
2) Do I run the wash?
3) Should I continue the generations or dump it and start again?
Any advice/thoughts welcome

If chasing neutral and running through a reflux setup or plates tight cuts will clean it up..
If making whiskey it should be contained in the heads...run it and put on your next gen... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Giving this recipe a go for the first time. Using distillers yeast rather than bakers yeast. Interesting to see how it turns out.
Have typically been doing the FFV recipe. Interested to see how this turns out!

Putting a little bit of distillate left overs into the wash, (only a litre or three) for a second ferment will give a wonderful outcome.
