I drain the wash off the sediment and put fresh water back in the fermenter and after a couple of hours the sediment drops and the water can be taken off and used in next wash .

hey Guy's just wondering when this is drinkable after distilling as I have read where some are happy with it basically from the still?
I was thinking mainly as a neutral/vodka & adding essence for a quick whiskey?
cheers

I ran a batch of this through 4 plates just before NYE and have had it on Still Spirits Bourbon Staves since then (they came with the T500...). Got impatient and tried a bit tonight and even though it's only been ageing 3 weeks and I'm not really a whisky drinker, I must say, and SWMBO agrees, it is rather good. Not quite scotch, not quite bourbon but delicious nonetheless. Looking forward to tasting it again in another couple of months. If it lasts that long!

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

I'm just distilling Gen 2 today. Gen 3 has been put to bed.
In gen 3, I added a coopers beer light malt to my 60 litres to see how it goes.
I have also used 2 kilos of brown sugar and really like the taste it adds. Real rich.

I ran two 30 litre stripping runs fast. Add the 2 runs together. Around 10 litres. Add water and run on a drip.

As to how it tasted. Well, I loved it. Drank two thirds of it in a week with a little help from mates. (to much help in my opinion. :wtf: )

Very much love this recipe.

I put down a litre on some wood. May need to hide it from myself.

liking the 50/50 mix ive been drinking with CF and WB. yesterday I put down a gen 2 60L wash yesterday of just weet bix and 22L of backset from gen 1 that was a vodka run. Hoping for some nice flavour with all that backset and i wont push to many gens out after this one as im sure it willl get very acidic with so much backset. might try a gen 3 and maybe 4

looking for a way to increase flavour. wonder what to call it  single wheat grain :))

Quick a few questions.
Gen 3 finishes this weekend and I will prob go to Gen 4.
So far, I have not added yeast. I noticed some did. Do you only add new yeast if the new wash doesn't kick off after say 12 hours odd.
Someone said that if you add new yeast, it will eat the old yeast.
Gen 3 seems a bit slower than Gen 1 and 2 but that could be temp related.

And is 3rd gen yeast better than new yeast? Such as better flavors?

PS. 2nd Gen tastes great.

Thanks again guys.

A tablespoon of new yeast is fine to get her going again ... You probably don't need it though. I've been up to 6 gens without adding any. Fresh yeast will only eat any dead yeast so if your yeast is still kicking it will just help out

2nd gen took 3 hours.
3rd about 8 but it was 24 degrees.

Thanks BennyHiggo. That helps a lot.

Wow. Just tasted my latest creation.
I had 4 x 25 litre WBAB put through a 2" pot still as strip runs as the original plus each another generation. Then combined the lot and did a spirit run through the 2" pot still. I put 4 litres of 65% on French oak and the 2 litres on 20g American oak. That was 10 months ago. Today I watered the 2 litres down to 42% and wow. Am trying not to be too biased but I think it is eminently drinkable straight!!
Very happy

how does this look? :scared-eek:

10 - 12 kg sugar
40 weetbix
8 cups All Bran
100g bread yeast
2 teaspoons epsom salts
1.5 teaspoons citric acid
water to the 60lt mark

I might only put 10kg sugar as the weetbix & all bran has sugar in it

Cooee

without taking the whole box apart, I think there are 60 Wheat Bix (I got it from Aldi) in a 1.12kg box

if a box per 60lt is all that is needed, that will do me. I can throw the Power Bran (Aldi again) to the birds, heaps here

I am doing this wash for Vodka as well :happy-partydance:

are the other ingredients about right?

10kg sugar
1 box of Wheat Bix
100g bread yeast
2 teaspoons epsom salts
1.5 teaspoons citric acid
water to the 60lt mark

:text-thankyoublue: in advance

the TPW made a much better wash than Turdbo :puke-huge: so this wash should be another step up again :happy-partydance:

but didn't you write previously that you use 1.2kg of Weetbix in a 60lt wash? there is 1.12kg in a box of Wheat Bix. I use 20 Weetbix when I did a 50lt blackberry stout :happy-partydance:

3rd Gen finished with the added malt. Think it was the coopers malt. Added 1 kilo to 60 litres. Not much but good extra flavours.

I'll add this to the essence flavours section as well because I got the best results so far on a single malt whisky.. (says the guy that's been doing it for 11 weeks)

So I had 60 litres, on gen 3 with the malt added.

On distill of the first 30 litres, I kept 2 litres of the best hearts.
It was run on full open with my pure distill reflux.
I put them in glass jars with smoked oak.. (one I got with the kit) 2 blocks.
I added Edwards Single malt Whisky. Half to each Jar.

So, 1 week in, I mixed 200 mil with 200 mil water. And I have to say, I was shocked, stunned and not a little amazed!
Damn good drop! Could drink it all now, but will be patient.

The balance got a double distill and is in the first stages of consumption.
