None of those

Of intrest;
Calcuim

The salt is a consideration, but unlikely to matter, fibre n carbs are of no interest

Just getting back into it after many years and will likely give this recipe a go but was wondering why paste? Would (or has anyone tried) passata (puree), juice or even tinned crushed tomatoes? Obviously need to be preservative and additive free.....
just a thought.

Great recipe and loads of good info here for a noob like me. We have a lot of variations on the theme of tomato paste here in Italy, I used passata which seemed to work just fine with a beer yeast. We have fairly hard water here so the pH didn't seem to be a problem at all, the only issue I had was after lifting the lid to give it all a stir after 48 hours it almost stalled - ooops!
I got around 8% ABV from the wash, if I wanted to up the alcohol output is better to use a wine yeast and more sugar or just do a second run?
- thanks guys, another happy customer :-D

The wash is cheap and easy, keep it that way by doing a 2nd batch.

Keep the wine yeast for something else.

I would say because its concentrated you prob need less of it to get nutrient. Lots tins of tomato in one jar paste..

In case you dont have any paste tinned tomato works, and as a bonus it comes with PH correction (citric acid) so you can get away without adding any. I just blend them first. Not quite as cheap as paste, and inevitably more chunky, but works.

Ah TPW. BBB

Completed one of the BBB (big bitch batch) 180l of liquid. hmm its okay. Gotta do it man. Some good lessons in the decline of potency and flavouring. But an economic run. Gotta be close to a dollar a litre, give or take.

What was the yield, approximately 15 litres? We were too drunk to care about measurements and metrics. Low as 74% ABV due to ph2.8 and horrid town water. high as 84% between heads, hearts and tails. See too drunk in 2021, ha over 20litres :P

Gotta find some stainless steel! funnels! ferment vessel, thermometer. Due to the humidity in late October, oh and pretty much all of 2022, but the heat in October had two LCD displays fog and the crystals can't display.

Now I have started on the second BBB which is Big Love Batch. But more fun to call it BBB. Before I could distill I had to clean an infected yeast cake, never seen anything like it in person. Only on the web. Can we post disgusting infected yeast pictures. Yes we can, its aussie distiller!

Done TPW for a while now thanks to you guys. A mate said I should agitate/stir the wash after the first week but I have never done this in the past. Any truth to this? What would the benefit be?

TIA

Welcome to the forum , how about dropping into the welcome centre and saying g’day
Ti answer the question , I never did but some people do and some will even stir up after fermentation has ended to degass then leave it a week to settle

How does this go with a pot still? I’ve tried to find it, but 77 pages is a lot to take in when you read at snails pace :wtf:
