Weird alchometer reading

Postby DonkeyBrains » Mon Sep 21, 2020 7:57 pm

hi guys

I left 2 sugar washes for 11 days and when I took readings it floated well below the 0. Its like the wash is too thick for it to sink into. I tested it on other washes and it measured correctly.

Temperature is 20.

Any help would be appreciated

You can’t measure a WASH with an alcometer.
You need a hydrometer
An alcometer is for measuring FINAL PRODUCT

An alcometer wont work very well in a wash.

To determine the ABV of a wash you need to know the starting and ending gravity values (read with a hydrometer) and calculated using the "Alcohol Content of the Wash" calculator here: http://www.aussiedistiller.com.au/xcalcs.html

That happens a lot, and that’s the main reason I started this forum, correct info from people who care
