I gave this a go a few days ago using still spirits essences because thats all I can seem to find. Couldn't get American Oak Liquid though so just left it out. It's a bit bland I think. Really needs that oak flavour. So I've currently got some of it sitting on some American Oak chips that I've had in my cupboard for the last two month waiting for the new still for the corn whiskey to be distilled. Hoping it adds some flavour to make this bland stuff taste a bit better. Not sure if I've added enough or too much, only time will tell.
If it doesn't though. Does anyone know where I can get the American Oak liquid from?

You could probably make your own tincture/essence by soaking some of your oak chips in high proof alcohol. You'd essentially be severely over-oaking some high poof neutral, and using a small portion of it as an essence...

But I still think you'e better off making your own rum, i'm sure you'll be much more pleased with the result ;-)

Yeah thats on the cards once the new still turns up. I'll probably have a MacRum and BWKO on the go at the same time haha.
Might have a go at making my own like you suggested for now. Cheers
