6" ideas

Postby Monkey Handler » Fri May 28, 2021 5:08 pm

Hi all,
So I'm getting a stupid amount of 6" stainless pipe (I've got 3x 3m lengths at my disposal) and need some ideas for a possible future build/s. When I say future, I mean well further down the track, well well, as in maybe beyond hobby (obviously legit).
I was thinking of a 6" CM type build, maybe:
A 3m length, cut into managable lengths (I'm thinking 500mm) sections. Tri clamp ferrules welded either side just for practicality and make it modular. A slotted type plate welded on the bottom of each section, with copper packing on the bottom of a few sections, then what ever packing media ontop. Slotted section to help with weight management of the packing. Then a reflux condenser ontop (thinking a double helix type design?), with a 1 inch take off (with ball valve etc) going to a PC?
Any other ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Got a boiler big enough and enough power to run a 6" setup?

I am always for a modular bubble plate setup (removable plates) with packed sections etc means you can run multiple different configurations

But powering 6" can be fun as well as having a big enough boiler (100L plus would be my thoughts)

If I ever get around to using it, then that'll all be sorted, yes. As silly as it sounds, I'd just hate to see that pipe go to waste :-|

6" packed section won't work too well, have a search for "channelling"
