How to neatly cut the rib off an EPDM seal?

Postby Bootross » Sat Aug 02, 2014 12:47 pm

I'm wanting to cut the rib from one side of a 4 inch triclamp EPDM seal so it's the same as Mac's flat faced sight glass seals.
I could probably have a crack and see how I go, but was hoping other members may have experience in this area and could give me ideas on what worked for them and any tips and tricks they used, or indeed what didn't work.
No sense reinventing the wheel :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use a really sharp razor blade. Slice the corner of the blade parallel until you have a bout CM cut then lift the bit yp and snip it.Pull and lift as you go all around.keeping it away from the blade will make it easier a the seal wull want to stick to the blade.

Havent tried it but jus thinking maybe some inox grease might help and stop the sticking

LM/VM head with 1m packed 2" on Still Spirits boiler for Neutrals.

Just used the one-sided blade from a stanley knife... take your time, the rib slices off real easy.

EPDM is a bit harder than silicone to do this, you might end up wanting to shave the flat surface once your done :handgestures-thumbupleft:
