Flux for Aqua safe solder

Postby RuddyCrazy » Sat Sep 20, 2014 3:17 pm

G'day guy's,
Yesterday I bought some aquasafe solder at bunnings and the plumbing flux, which was the only flux they had. Had a go using it and that flux does seem to be the wrong one as the solder just balls and doesn't flow. So what is the right flux to use with this solder ??????

Hopefully you did not get Ezi-weld 602 which is a brazing flux.

Now use 50l Keg with Pot head for Rum and Neutral stripping runs on gas .
LM/VM head with 1m packed 2" on Still Spirits boiler for Neutrals.

Just to add ...Flux for soldering usually contains Zinc Chloride whereas flux for Brazing contains Borax .

Funnily I always remember my Grandad who was old school plumber .....way back I was only 10years old ...he showed me making flux by putting chopped up pieces of Galvanized iron in in Hydrochloric acid for a while until the galv was all dissolved .....it fizzed and bubbled , what was left was as he called it "killed Salts" ...or Zinc Chloride , the bubbles were the released Hydrogen

Interesting you should mention "killed salts" Yummy.
A bloke I knew use to do something similar and called it "dead lead"
