New to distilling

Postby Austwave » Tue Jul 21, 2020 4:24 pm

Hi Guys,
I have been making beer for a good while currently doing full grain batches.
Keen to build a pot still for doing all grain mashes for Tennessee style whisky and am also partial to a Gin.
Here to learn.

if you want gin you will also need a reflux still. Welcome :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Welcome to AD Austwave.

You'll definitely need a reflux column of some sort to make the neutral base for your gin. If you're patient and can ride out the oaking time, you could start out with the pot still and make your whisky then add a column later for gin. If you're after instant gratification, you'll need both. There's plenty of info in newbies corner to get you started and there's tons of inspiration for your build to be found in the the pot still section.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Your beer brewing experience will put you in good stead for this hobby. Mashing corn flour for your Tennessee style whiskey will have you pulling your hair out - trust me. Look Up Brendans guide to AG Bourbon. Lots of good info there.
