Say Hi and introduce yourself

Materials

Good day my fellow southern hemispherians (can I say that) and thanks for having me on your portal.
Although South Africa has or rather is struggling under prohibition this is not my main reason to build a still, I have been wanting to ever since I received a copy of the Alaskan Bootleggers Bible a few years ago.
Having been laid off work since the outbreak of the china virus I have a lot more time on my hands and decided to actually build myself a still, All well and good having built it but now there are a lot more questions than answers regarding different material, washes etc.
My main concern is the lack of brass in the building of stills or column packing, I have read on various posts in the states that they don't recommend brass fittings because of possible contamination of the product but the only info I can find and the only liquid to react with brass is ammonia. (if there is a problem with brass I need to know as my packing is solid brass lathe turnings)
I have not yet attempted to do a run yet as I am still waiting for a part for my keg.
I look forward to sharing information with you guys.

Welcome mate, here is one of the many threads here relating to brass viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8800

If you decide to use it please only consume your own product and don't let anyone else drink it...

Hi mate and welcome to the forum.
I’d honestly just ditch the brass packing and use stainless or even scortia rocks in its place.
