Hi from the south island.

Hi gang,
I thought I'd do the right thing and join the forum, I have been reading it on and off for ages.
I've been away from the hobby for quite a while now (moved interstate) and coming back to it, I see that there has been quite a few advances in the hobby in the last few years.
i've got an old Pure Distilling set up from when they first started and somewhere buried in a shed is an old 5L pot still that the HBS used to sell way back when. It will probably will never be used again!
Since I have started digging out the old equipment I have discovered the joys of voltage controllers so I will start to try all grain washes again as whenever I tried them in the past, they puked and scorched.

Welcome Brad.
No point running a grain wash through the pure distilling rig and a 5L pot would drive me mental

Yes, no point in running grain washes through a boka - although I understand it wouldn't be too bad if I ran it without the packing. I intend to build a 2" pot still arm with a Dimroth condensor at some stage down the track.

Welcome mate! :greetings-waveyellow:
Pure distilling still aint the worst starting point out there.. mine made a few litres of what i class as clean neutral.
All the advice i ever got about removing the packing leaned towards not touching it. A simple pot is a great edition for brown spirits. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi BradM,

Welcome! There seem to be more and more Tasmanians in the forums.

Don't throw away your 5L still: they're perfect for making gin.
