Needed a new hobby..

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Needed a new hobby..

Postby yorkie » Tue Mar 09, 2021 7:52 pm

So I decided I need a hobby. Something cheap and cheerful where I can have a bit of quiet time to myself.. 1st rookie mistake.. Do I go pot or reflux. Do I put in a parrot with a shotgun.. Do I use a keg or ... it's a minefield. So rookie mistake no 2. Google distilling process. I'm now looking at Alibaba and a $20k still..
Rookie starting to understand this hobby. Stop buying and start reading. So here I am back to basics and looking for guidance and advice on where to start and looking forward to a relaxing hobby and learning a few basics to start....oh ive cancelled the still from Alibaba.. I don't really want to make 250 gallon a day....

Welcome here mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Very good idea to do a great deal of research before parting with your hard earned.

First simple questions are what do you want to make and what is your budget?

Hi Yorkie
I have a FSD 2"boka and pot. Cost effective and produces high quality spirits. Have a look at my thread on the boka in reflux stills. You might want something bigger. Depends on what you want to make, how much you want to spend, how much space there is available and how much time you have.
Lots of information on this forum. Happy to answer any questions you might have.
Cheers

A lot of your questions will be answered once you know what you want to produce, as that will sort out the reflux, pot question.

Then it will get down to budget, volumes, space you have, how much time you have, etc.

As Sam said what do you want to produce, and welcome by the way :handgestures-thumbupleft:

In the wise words of Old El Paso “Why don’t we have both?”
I believe there is a direct link to stills and bbqs, there is a mathematical equation too how many of each you should own. That simple equation is S=N+1. Still = Now plus 1. Im currently sitting on 4 bbqs and 3 stills. 5th bbq is in design phase now. My fiancée hates it!

Damn, I’m sitting on 5 BBQs (if 2 gassers count) and only one still(but OH what a still ;) ).
I’m thinking about nicking a T500 back off my little brother to set up as a stripper and I have a plan to turn a commercial steak grill (salamander) into an electric Q with lava rocks.

So any BBQs don’t have the lava rocks option yet I think they add so much flavour and flame.
