G"day Folks

I've just begun distilling and have produced my first 'brew' which I turned into 1.4L of whisky and 1L of spiced rum. I'm using an Airstill (because it's easy) and apart from not realising at first that my wash had fully fermented plus a small carbon filtering problem (my local brew store owner solved both for me) I am very happy with what I produced. The rum went back to WA with my Bro and I'm enjoying the whisky.

My only quibble about the whisky is 'body'. What I've produced feels thin and when I compare it to a Lagavullin say. This is what I would like to replicate but am not sure how. I'll check here for threads on this subject and if I can't find any I'll start my own. I've always found forums like these to be a great way to improve on what I'm doing and I'm looking forward to the learning curve.

Welcome holden4th.

What wash did you use as a base for your whisky?

When you say carbon filtering, do you mean you filtered your whisky?

Or did you perhaps make a "neutral" spirit, filter it and then add flavour?

Cheers,
Prof. Green.
