Hey fellas, I am going to be getting a 36L (total volume) boiler with a 3200w or 3600w element in it. I was looking at putting a 3" 4 plate column on top of it with a 3" dephleg above and then step down to 2" for elbows and condenser.
Will a 3" column be alright for this size boiler. I haven't got the cash to go with 4" and I don't really want that much money sitting around not being used continually.
Any thoughts and advice will be appreciated.

A 3” on a 36L boiler will be fine but if you start getting into this great hobby I bet you’ll kick yourself later for not going 4” on a 50L.

Thanks for moving it to the right place.

The reason I'm going with the 36L is it will be for brewing beer with as well. 50L will be a bit big for the volume I would brew, so I'm trying to minimise the amount of expensive equipment I have laying around.

Welcome to AD Trento.

If you are intent on going with a 36l boiler, can you give us some more details on the one you are looking at? Is it a ready made one from a homebrew shop or are you making it yourself? I only ask as not all boilers sold for beer making are suitable for distilling.
