Hi All,
New to distilling, not a beer / wine drinker, more into spirits.
Have started researching but still undecided as to what path to go down.
I want to start out with neutral and will probably then progress to whiskeys.

I have space for a still and equipment and I am a keen diy'er, so building something wont phase me.
Not a huge budget to start out with, but willing to pay up to 1k for a complete fitout, i.e. fermentation, boiler, condenser and all the necessary tools needed for my first run.

Needing advice as to what equipment to get started on . Air Still pro, T500, pure distilling. 5 Star;) etc

And is there a detailed thread (i have tried searching) that outlines the whole process from start to finish?

Cheers Raven

Welcome Raven :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Mate welcome to the rabbit hole where once you down there's no coming back :laughing-rolling:

50 litre beer kegs aren't hard to come by and once the spear is out it will accept a 2" tri clamp :handgestures-thumbupleft: a 3 ring crab burner if you have one can do the heating for the start. Now you say you are handy with the tools so mate learn to soft solder and it's easy to make a pot still and remember the 5 star shop is there for everything you need bar the copper pipe.

Go have a look a few members builds in both the pot still and bubbler forums so you can get some idea's :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Now for making neutral your going to need a reflux still and for making grain based spirit a pot still comes in handy to both strip the wash and do spirit runs on flavoured spirits.

So keep reading and keep reading so you can learn the right way and remember what ever the HBS says is the wrong way everytime :laughing-rolling:

Cheers Bryan

Pot still on a beer keg with an electric element. Simple. You won’t outgrow it. You’ll almost definitely end up along those lines anyway.
Local markets for old olive barrels for fermenters. The brown plastic 80 litre ones are great.
If you have room for an IBC or if you have a water tank for garden, that’s great for water recirculating for cooling with a Bunnings submersible pump.

Howdy ravencsr and welcome to the forum

I have a 2 inch kegland reflux still that you can put onto a Keg that RuddyCrazy mentioned - with a gas burner under that you will be able to get neutral spirit very cheaply.

I live in Melbourne - out in Berwick, if you are interested in the reflux. Its only used a handful of times - half price of what I paid at Kegland.

Get your number of posts upto 10, so i can PM you my details.
