Hello From Melbourne

Postby Dougly » Tue Dec 16, 2025 2:30 pm

Hi Dougly brand new member,
from melbourne Vic.(don,t hold that against me )
I, been having a go for about 18 months now off and on.
I own a pure distill still and now have a 2 inch Boka on order can,t wait for that.
Been trying to make neutral spirits with essences, but harsh on throat when swallowing, now i,m (experimenting ) flavoring with oak chips, so here i am trying to learn the ropes.
Been reading half the posts on FSD 2 inch Boka. very informative, thanks all who posted. I,ve contacted Andrew at 5 Star Distilling, what a great guy to talk to had all the time in the world for me, I ordered 2 inch boka and copper from him. hope to do first run this side of xmas. am using my last turbo yeast ( yes i know) as sacraficial spirit run, as as i got no pot still at moment. spoke again today with andrew and spoke of glycerine have put 3ml per litre in existing bottles, have noticed improvemnt already, great stuff. thanks Andrew. Started making TPW last batch but still rough on throat, have read about the cuts and finding it difficult (well really impossible) at moment. When i get used boka I,ll purchase a pot and strip 3 batches of 25 litre ferments and then do spirit run as i,v e seen mentioned may times by carol and others. OK cheers to the community and look forward to happy distilling.thanks Andrew for making this forum possible.

Welcome Dougly.

You will not be disappointed with the Boka, it's an excellent piece of kit.

Cuts are a difficult thing to master initially but I think you will get the hang of it in time. I usually lay the cuts jars out in order of collection and start from the middle, working my way out to either end. I find it makes it easier to determine where the heads and tails are that way.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome aboard doughy.
The cuts will make more sense once you have done a run mate. It gets easier the more you do and don’t be afriad to follow your own instincts and back your taste buds and nose :)
