Postby Mathewstaylor » Wed Dec 24, 2025 11:49 am

Hi I have recently purchased a 20l super reflux still during my first run I had turned the water on to cool the colum at around 70 degrees the temperature then had fallen to 30 degrees and would not rise after turn ing the water back off and allowing the temperature to rise to 80 degrees I then turned the water on again and and the temperature went up to 85 degrees and all that was produced was 700 ml of drinkable alcohol at 80 percent am I missing something there is nothing inside the colum no copper wool or stainless wool any help would be much appreciated

a picture of your rig would help, we don't know what equipment you're using.
also need to know if you are doing stripping and spirit runs, what product and wash you are using.

I moved your post here to the welcome centre since it’s your first post, welcome to the forum.
Now, always turn on the water as soon as you turn on the still.
Secondly, what you have is a very old basic reflux still and it sounds like you’re trying to run it as a pot still .
There will be others here that still run one of these and will have a better idea on what your next steps are.

Thank you for the reply I have done a bit of research on them and there’s not a lot of videos or information out there just trying to get my head around it
