New Guy :)

Say Hi and introduce yourself

New Guy :)

Postby jeracoo » Sun Jul 17, 2011 6:52 pm

Hi all, my names Matt, I'm a chemist in the brisvegas area and have just gotten into the interesting and exciting world of fermentation and distillation.

My previous hobby was making rockets motors but my new place is a bit too small for that so I've decided to switch to something that will still utilize some of my other scientific skills while providing me with some basically free booze :D .

I've got my first batch fermenting now, it's wrapped up in a blanket in my shed and it'll be done in about a week or so, I'll be sure to tell everyone how it goes.

Cheers

G'day Matt,

What's the wash you've got going and what type of still are you using?

Welcome along for the ride :)

My wash is just a 25 liter Birdwatcher recipe, so 1 cup tomato paste, 1 juiced lemon small, 6kg sugar and about 80 grams of bakers yeast.

Current temperature is 32°C and its bubbling like crazy, its been on for 2 hours so far and a heavy foam several inches thick has formed.

My still is a T500 still and condenser.

Cheers

Used to be around logan but moved closer to the city for my job., hence why I can't make rocket motors anymore :(.

We have an abandoned lab fully equipped a floor above me, I'm pretty certain there's a gas chrom machine there, if there is I'll do an analysis on the heads, tails and my main brew.

G'day Matt.
Welcome to the forum. You've picked a good reliable wash to start off. The TPW is pretty well bomb proof.

Yeah I was surprised how quick the Birdwatcher wash is, it was foaming and bubbling within about 2 hours and its still bubbling away now, going to check the sg in a few days.

once it's done give it time to clear a bit

or if it's going to be a cleaning was just run it cloudy

Ok it took a little over 36 hours for it to stop bubbling, the sg is now 0.98 and the wash tastes like wine, it's preety cloudy so I'm going to wait a while for it to clear.
