Gday

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Gday

Postby devotus » Fri Nov 04, 2011 6:56 am

Gday everyone, I'm an Aussie living in Germany at moment and have decided to try my hand.

I joined artisan distiller which then somehow brought me to here.

I know next to jack shit and will ask dumb questions, bear with me I learn quickly just need nudges in the right direction at first.

My goals are to be able to competently operate a pot still (a bought copper Alembic) and produce a good quality hg Absinthe.

My plans were to distil some wine for a good wine base but have changed my mind to giving the TPW a go and after I've got a little practice in strips and cuts I'll move onto making a wine neutral base.

So first get an idea on the apparatus before I take over the world with my pangalactic gargleblasters.

So good to be here and see you all around.

Cheers

Thanks McStill and stubbydrainer, although mate I'm only home via the hyperglobalmeganet the rest of me is still here in Germany.

The wine base I'm talking about is distilling the alcohol off to use as a base in my Absinthe ambitions, that'll come after I try it with the spirit obtained from the tpw.

I see I'm going to have to run the tpw through my pot still a few times to get a flavourless high proof base though. This should be great fun.

Thanks Maheel I will do,

I have several authentic recipes with slight variations

at first I'm going to go with the standard holy trinity ie A,absinthium, green anise, florence fennel, with colouring of pontica, hyssop and melissa. As I said I have variations on that but will try basic first and see where I go wrong or where the variations might benefit.

I will be making a diary of my experiences, successes and failures and I will probably be a pain in the butt initially to you guys. When I get back to OZ I'll probably have a look at making a fractional still (VM or whatever is best for my purposes) as well as upping the size of my pot still,I will have to see how things pan out.

Cheers M

Welcome aboard devo
The effect of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.
The Guide tells you on which planets the best Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters are mixed, how much you can expect to pay for one and what voluntary organizations exist to help you rehabilitate afterwards.

The 'Official' Recipe Taken from The Guide

Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit.
Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V.
Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzine is lost).
Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it (in memory of all those happy Hikers who have died of pleasure in the Marshes of Fallia).
Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qualactin Hypermint extract, redolent of all the heady odours of the dark Qualactin Zones; subtle sweet and mystic.
Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian Suns deep into the heart of the drink.

Sprinkle Zamphour.

Add an olive.

Drink... but... very carefully.

and now I notice your sig, his turn of phrase was brilliant and unique.

'Vogon ships hanging in the air in much the same way that bricks don't'

'the secret to flying unaided is to throw yourself at the ground and miss'

No wonder he and Stephen Fry were good mates.

I have tried this many times, it does not work, probably because I fail to miss the ground :laughing-rolling:
