Say Hi and introduce yourself

Hi from Melbourne, AU

Hi There,

Just thought i'd introduce myself. I've been lurking here for a while, reading.. researching.. dreaming.. etc.

I'm currenlty in the process of planning and building a VM column (the same design as in the Nixon book). I want to start out by making vodka and flavouring it.
So far I've made my Leibig and now need to source bits and pieces for the rest (keg and 2" Copper pipe).

I have never brewed beer or distilled before, so i'm completely new to this. Thanks to everyone here and on HD, i think i know what i need to do. I must stress "I THINK I KNOW"

welcome JS

do you have a pic or a link to the build your considering / started ?

some of the nixon cross flow tube designs are challenging to get to work well in regards to refluxing.

or are you building the ball valve VM still
this style

Hi Maheel,

Yes thats a pic of the one i'm building, but with a Gate valve instead of a ball valve (apparently it allows for more acurate setting than a ball valve).

It'll be a 2" column 1500mm high with a 1" T as in the picture you've posted. The Leibig i've made is 1/2" inside a 3/4", exactly the same as BGT's one: http://aussiedistiller.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=612

Boiler will hopefully be a SS Keg when i can get hold of one and not sure about the power source yet, most likely Gas burner of some type.

I don't have a pic or a link yet, think i'll draw it up and post it so i can get a bit of feedback before i go any further.

Cheers,

JS
