Hi,

Still a newbie (obout 6 weeks into it : 4 runs)

Got me a t500, but am currently gathering research and materials to build me a Boka over the coming months :)

Already starting to like my own product :) a lot.

G'day Scotty & welcome.

Dont be in a rush to build another still until you learn all you can, you may well end up wanting to get into rum n bourbon making with a pot still if it's flavors your chasing.

Your T500 is a decent unit to get your feet on the ground, and a few here even swear by them....... thank gawd ya didnt buy an air still tho (hey Frank) :text-lol:

Enjoy your stay :)

Thanks guys...

The Boka is going to be over a number of months before it is anywhere near ready (mid next year I'd guess). In the meantime, I'm happy with the t500 so far. I'm getting some great tastes out of it (so far with just essences).

Have learnt the main two ingredients are a lack of greed (cuts) and plenty of patience (very slow drip rate by keeping the out-flow temp as close as I can to 55c.

I might well make up a second column too. Depends on time etc. I'm really liking this new hobby :)

Hi Scotty
and welcome.

IMHO the first part of McStill's advice is certainly true. Take your time, try a few different washes, oak soaks etc to get a feel for where its at....as is often said here, you can put any 'mistakes' back through the still ! ;) ....
the second part about God and Airstills.... Hmmmmm, this is from a man who puts COKE in his neutral :teasing-neener: :puke-huge:
That said, I guess we shall just have to humour him for now and accept his 'greater knowledge' or, at least, pretend to as he owns this website :P (and, besides, the poor bugger just moved to Western Australia   :laughing-rolling: )
Have fun and T500 users are waiting for your call....
Frank

Well, I have a confession

I guess we've all tried a sip of 95% (+/-) straight just to see what it tasted like :o

I also tried 95% with an equal portion of coke. :)

I just had to. :ugeek:

Lol
