Using tin of beer malt for whisky

Postby Hepcat » Tue May 24, 2022 11:36 am

Hi all, I am just wondering if I can use a tin if Morgan’s Master Malt Caramalt to molasis wash add flavour similar to captan morgans spiced rum
Or should it be added to the spirit like a sort of flavouring

Thank you Howard, I will be giving it a go, should work with a rum, I hope.
Certanly will grab some corn and give it go
I just finnished generation 5 of ujsm and thinking I will tip all the spirits @ 40% back into still with a can of caramalt for flavour
And then add 3 litre of molassis to what is left in the still after the run for some interesting rum.
All the best, wish me luck

You dont want to add malt for spiced rum. For spiced look at addong vanilla bean ginger/ differnt spices.
Malt and molasses will give you rumsky not quite whiskey not quite rum..
I quite like rum with sultanna and chilli added :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Never tried that with rum, I prefer citrus peel, spices ect, adding some peach brandy wash when you distil it or any other brandy for that matter.
Minced sultanas boiled and then using that to melt in your molasses works really nice too.

But I can confirm it makes some really nice, really smooth whiskey using pure liquid malt.
I use it a lot these days for that, I still add some grain wash for a little more character and a bit of dextrose to up the proof a little.
