Riser Length vs Downcomer

Postby aussiebrewer » Sun Oct 16, 2016 4:48 pm

Hey guys. Im looking at riser lengths against downcomers. from what i have seen and read if the power is on good enough no liquid will go back down the riser as the bubble cap pushes it out from the rising vapor force. soo, that being said if i were to have a bath depth of 25mm can my risers be 25mm also? or would 30mm be best

Might begin one of these plated column builds in the near future.

Most build the riser shorter than the downcomer. Physics tells me that's not really necessary as the vapour pressure will prevent the liquid weeping back down the riser. If it doesn't its not working anyway or you've somehow created a singularity in your boiler. :D
Either way, rule of thumb is most people do it with the riser shorter than the downcomer but I've seen working exceptions to the rule.

At the end of the day, for the sake of 20-40mm of riser pipe, just go 5-10mm taller riser than bath depth and save yourself the trouble if it doesn't work ;-)

You've got your rule of thumb backwards, warra!
