Driving a Plated Column Still

Postby grehund » Sun Jun 17, 2012 3:09 pm

Hi All,

There's lots of talk about what is/why use a plated column still, but I'm having some problems finding a good quality guide to driving them. Could anyone here offer a short guide on the process of running/driving one of these?

If I've missed a post that explains this already, I'm sorry. Please feel free to point me in the right direction. ;-)

This thread helped me get my head around it along with bits and pieces from other threads - specifically this post

http://www.artisan-distiller.net/phpBB3 ... 6&start=20

There are little bits of info in various threads but nothing concise from go to whoa

Hopefully someone with experience call pull something together as a user guide

Cheers

Brigand,

You're a champion! That's an excellent thread. I've got much to learn before I take delivery of my new www.5stardistilling.com.au Dash1. :D

Any further comments are still appreciated, there's no such thing as too much info when it comes to this hobby.

I found it a bit daunting the first time I ran mine, just not knowing what to expect.
But after a few runs you'll find the sweet spot for yours.

There is a lot of good info that floats around forums now about how to run them, and I'm sure yours will come fully supported.

My new dephleg is very easy to drive, dual exits for finer control. Works a dream.

They're a lot easier to run than a LM or VM column I reckon, a couple of test runs and you'll have it figured out :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Wow! All the comments seem to suggest that it's easier to run than my Bok. That's great news. After reading about how adjusting the coolant off-take on the dephleg or the coolant intake through the shotgun both affect each other, it seemed like a fairly delicate balancing act. I'm sure it'll seem a lot less complicated once I've had a play around with it.

@scarecrow I agree, they get me every time. Even so Mac, don't take 'em away! :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yeah, I'd rate it in the "top 10 of all time" avitars. Simple, elegant and bloody distracting!
