Run out of heat

Postby bt1 » Mon Sep 24, 2012 7:03 am

hello all,

Started on Deph reflux condenser hard soldering plates into 4" pipe. Using 15% silver which got me through last time but just not enough heat . Berzomatic TS4000 on MAPP Pro gas.

Solder just balls, sits and will not flow or melt.

Bout the only soln. I can think of is is to sit it on a 3 ring burner flat out and hard solder the plates in using map gun. Any advice as this is really got me at a complete stop on my build.

A stumped

Hi Bt1,
If it were me, I would be using soft solder not hard(brazing) :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You are clever fellows , I'm going to try this as my LPG compressor setup is pretty difficult to use with the nozzles I have (blows itself out as soon as its not close up on the job) real pain really, as EG said to me once Cheap, Fast, Good pick 2 :laughing-rolling:

Now for some good news!

have an old 2 ring burner in the shed just happened to fit 4" pipe spot on...

Put the deph condenser shell on the burner gave it 1 ciggy and 2 slurps of heating time attacked with the mapp gun...bloody magnificent!

have no hairs on back of wrists/ forearms but its done and done easily.

I'll never struggle for heat again...nice!

a happy
