SS mesh to copper

Postby bt1 » Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:00 am

Howdy,

need some advice on best method to join a SS mesh wire like HD SS flyscreen wire to copper.

Reason being to continue the pursuit of excellence in OD's gin recipe I'm wanting to make a gin botanticals caddy to pop into the new 4" perf plater. Figure a 30mm 4" band cut resized and brazed to insert into col with SS mesh base to allow vapour flow through...prefer infusion to macerations for my gins

Fluxes, rod type, other joining methods?

Soft solder works good on ferrels, cant see why it wouldnt work on that bt1.

When i started working, plumbers still use to solder fly wire into the top of copper vents, bloody impossible to pull off if some prick had dropped a bottle down there I CAN tell you cause that was normally steel or brass but from whats been posted on the subject I can't see why it wouldn't be as good

Soldering works well.
Helps to sandwich it in between 2 surfaces, dosn't work all that well when just lapped.
If you have it sandwiched between two surfaces, spotwelding also works well.
