Howdy,

odd thought occured today...

Do you cut the sight glass holes into col first then solder/mount flanges or

solder flanges on then cut sight glass holes...this seems better as it absolutely stops hole saw movement and ensures better hole to flange line up?

take advice here

could I add a little more to this, do it what ever method you feel more comfortable with...no I have not done one before but what I have done I always do it the easiest way for me. You have to ask yourself if you solder them on first how will you cut out pipe? and if you cut them out first how will you solder them in properly ? make a jig how will you make a jig to hold them inline...just a little more food for thought. I hope this helps a little ?

All I do is mark a line along the column, mark where you want the glasses to be, small center punch mark, scribe circle with dividers, solder them on, then holesaw. 1 7/8" is ideal, but can leave some marks inside, 1 3/4" wont mark it as much, but leaves a bit to be cleaned out.

But you have to do it how you feel comfortable
