So after mowing the ever-growing lawn.
Decided to trick up the plumbing on Steampunk 2
polished brass plumbing (Copy).JPG

Took the photo before polishing the second gate valve to show a comparison before/after.

It's been a long hot humid weekend and in the shed of invention even worse.
Coming into the wet season is always bad, but using a huge torch in a small workshop as well..... it stuffed me.

But I did get a few things done.
Trial fitted the still together yesterday and it was very wonky.
Leaning tower of pissa more than Steampunk. (yes I spelt it that way on purpose.)

So ground bits and pieces, shaped some more, soldered even more and acid dipped the lot.
Blew up a 4" grinder in the process.

She's not yet finished but I can see the line from here. :D

I'll have to replaced the arm as it is crooked.
Run out of 3" pipe so it's off to the scrappy next week. :angry-banghead:

Now I'm breaking my self imposed rule of no booze before 9pm and going to have a few.
Cause it's too damn hot to stay down here.
:greetings-waveyellow: Bye

Yeah the 6" does make the boiler seem a bit undersized.

Yummyrum wrote:Still looks fine , bricklayer fucked up 8-}

Yeah.... that's it .... bloody useless bricklayers.

Thanks mate... yes a boiler is definitely on the list next.
A 50ltr keg just doesn't cut it anymore.
Not sure about the steampunk theme for it though, I'd just be happy to have a boiler large enough to do a decent run with this 6".

Have a couple of things to make before it's ready to run.
Was hoping to have done a vinegar run on the weekend but just ran out of time.

OK Guys I need an honest opinion regarding the cap for this build.

Sometimes just because you build something you think " That looks good"
But in this case .... aaaaahhhhh I'm not convinced.
It doesn't look anything like I was hoping, though I'm not sure that it is butt ugly either.

So, what's the consensus ?

Hmm looks like some sort of helmet all right but more like one with the foreskin pulled back on it. Personally I don't think it suits the build, its probably very functional but if you want frank honest opinions mine is to go with something that fits with the steam punk theme (perhaps an OG profile) . I think deep down you know this and that's why you asked :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yeah you probably are right Crow.

As I said before I'm not convinced it is worth keeping ..... it was a good idea but bad make.
I'll use it for the moment and make something better later.
Just want to have this still running this weekend.
Sometimes you just have to build it and see.
It's made from left over bits and offcuts.

I reckon it looked like an ashtray upside down. :laughing-rolling:
Or an armadillo hat to ward off aliens. :teasing-tease: :teasing-neener:
Or a Dalek reject from Dr Who.

Cheers

Look great dbv :handgestures-thumbupleft: like your coolant set up. How do you find you method of water inlet at the btm of the pc prheating to the rc. I have a direct cold line to each condenser no pre heating

Yeah I need a new boiler but the $ just aren't there at the moment.
I'd do an 8" just for the fun of it but can't find any 8" copper pipe at the scrappy.
Maybe I should learn tig  . . . . :D

On the 4" even though it goes through the PC first the valve on the RC is only ever open just a crack while running.
It is too efficient.
So there is no problems with the way it is set up.
Going in at the bottom of the RC is the usual way used on this forum.
Theory is that the other way around it forms an air pocket at the top of the RC.
