Hey DBV im interested in doing some screw on sight glasses like yours. Decided to just bite the bullet and make em since im going fully modular now.
Want your advice on how to achieve ones like you did

the way i see myself doing it is making 2 plates for each sight glass section maybe 15mm bigger radius than the pipe which will be 3" or 2" whichever i get and cutting out the middle to either the size of the pipe or something which would make them about 15mm width band, like yours only not sure on your measurements.
then i was thinking about drilling all holes in line near edge of the rings for the screws, and solder over the tee section
then place a seal over first ring, then sight glass over the seal and then the next ring over the glass and screw the last ring on with the screws on the outside of the glass.

Is this how you did yours? Im wondering if it pulls the outside of the last band in a little with the screw pressure? looked over your pics but couldn't quite tell

Cheers
WTD

Hey WTDist
Mate you've got it right.
I'd drill the holes so you can tap the plate being soldered onto the " T "
Then solder then tap.
The face plate needs a bigger hole so the screw will slip through.

15mm would be the smallest you want to go.
That's the size I did.

18mm would give a bit of leeway for mistakes
Can always cut metal off if you want.

If you drill them in pairs they will match up.
Just mark the side of each pair differently, keeps them identified.

The brass is 6mm thick, so no distortion when tightening.
Also no real need to put lots of pressure on the glass when tightening the screws up.
Just tight enough so it doesn't leak.

All the best on your sight glasses. :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

One advantage of the brass plate sg fitting is even pressure, less chance of breaking a glass.

And right again, seal either side of the glass.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi guys
Long time since my last rebuild of SP2.
This time I've removed the easy flanges and am in the process of fitting pressed flanges.

This of course brings new problems that I'll work through over the coming weeks/months.
Cutting the old flanges off has been a challenge.
Most of the 6" and 4" have now been removed.
Still have to fit many of the 4".

Well things came to a halt as work took over.

But I've managed to get most of the re-flanging (is that even a word?) done.

Just bought a few 3" copper to stainless flanges from 5 star.
So should be completing that soon.

Then all is left is cutting the plates down to fit.
Currently too big to drop into the housing.

Forgive the sideways photos.
Couldn't get it all in one photo even then.
