Position of 2" Bubble Caps?

Postby TasSpirits » Sun Jul 31, 2016 1:40 pm

I am about to start making some plate for my new FSD 2" Bubble Caps and would appreciate a bit of input about the position of the cap and downcomber. Thanks in advance. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

How high are your downcombers?

Downcomer can't be too much higher than the riser or it won't work well or at all.
The distillate will go down the riser and lead to flooding.

If the riser is 20mm above the plate then you may be able to get away with 25mm on the riser if the bubbeling is particularly vigorous.

My riser holes are 22mm at the bottom so I think ill just go 20mm for the downcomber, on my perforated plates they are 17mm.

Thanks Guys, I couldn't remember the build where I had seen the 2" caps used, going to try make some down combers similar to the FSD ones, so they can be removed and used on the extra perforated plates I am going to build. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Tas,

The 2" Bubble Caps are great  They get some serious action on the plate.
The only thing I would have done a little different is to get as much distance in between the Cap & the downcomer. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I wonder if a dividing wall might be of some benefit, so the bubbles cannot shortcut to the downcomer.

That's what I've done, I've got a ~20mm slotless section on the cap which will face the DC. :handgestures-thumbupleft: will let you know how it works soon!

Hopefully I will get my plates roughed out tonight, should have enough copper laying about, going to try and get them done by the end of the week. Maybe I could make the side of the DC that faces the cap higher?
