For those of us who don't have access to stainless welding gear (or any welding gear for that matter :D)what commercial places will do welding for kegs? I've cold called a few and they will not touch small jobs. I've heard that Acklands in Thebarton will, but is there anywhere else I can take a 50L keg and get some threads welded in for a ball valve and some elements and maybe a fill port.

I have no idea what is considered reasonable for SS welding and any kind of price guide would be helpful in knowing if I'm getting shafted.

So any SA members who can tell me which of the commercial places here does reasonably cost effective work that would be so helpful.

G'day BB,

I'm a stainless steel welder and can fine tig or mig anything you like. The welds will all be pickled (so they don't rust) and I'll do it for cheaper than you can get it anywhere in Aust Guaranteed just for members on this forum.

I live in Horsham Vic which is half way between Adelaide and Melbourne. So if your on your way to Melb at some stage you could just drop the job in.

A. Depending on the material type, whether or not holes need to be cut, how clean the weld site is etc.
Prices for engineering shops would normally charge $30 and up per fitting. However, don't be surprised if the whole job cost you $400!

Depending on the type of bloke you are, I might charge a hefty $0.00 just for the hell of it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Depending where you are in S.A, google beerbelly and look at there website and check it out :handgestures-thumbupleft: call and see what they charge and what you want done.

I was actually eying off beerbelly for some elements.

Have bought from them for beer supplies before but I got the impression they wouldn't weld or install any gear they sell?

I reckon their site says that...

dont tell them what its for. Also its not illegal to make a boiler or to make a still, so cant see why they would care. Yeah give them a ring I think he was stopping with some stuff as he got sick? I aint to sure on that and it was a while ago. Also could be a total different place :))

Only bought a sprial burner there and they are great to deal with and I on beer forum they are on never heard a bad word about it and hear his gear he makes is top notch.

They sell limited amounts of distilling gear in there so I don't see it being a problem.

As for cost I know an engineering joint in the country charge $60 an hour for welding. Not sure if the same applies in the city. :?

Amanda at beer belly is cool with distilling...I'm in there just about every fortnight.

The guy (Peter???) who also works there is a novice distiller...we had a long chat Saturday about improving his bourbons.

They do have great elements, Mongolians gas rings, pots, fittings, regulators and most important...lots of fresh grains...ground to any spec

good mob and friendly.

ah btw if your a gin lover they also have the very rare grains of paradise seeds...you'll be needing that for your Bombay Saphire knock off.
