Where to get a keg?

Postby Godzilla2456 » Thu Jul 31, 2014 7:13 pm

Hey gents,

In the next few months I'm going to order an FSD 4" pot still with 1 or two bubbler sections. I'll gradually make my way up to 5-6 bubbler sections. Anyway, I'm going to need a decent size boiler and although I'd love the 60L FSD boiler, I can't fork out that much money. I know most people use old beer kegs as boilers, but where can they be acquired? I'm not going to nick one from a pub, like I know a lot of people do. Does anyone know of a legitimate way of getting one? I don't really want to buy one off gumtree, because chances are that it's been stolen and I don't want to give my money to a criminal...

Is there any other 50L or aroundabouts sized boilers that people use or can be easily made for moderately cheap (under a couple of hundred preferably). Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks gentlemen.

I reckon you're better off putting a heat shroud around it anyway to make it more efficient, and get up to temp quicker etc. So you'd never see it anyway...well, that's what I do :-D

Tried the tip shop at Ballina or Lismore?
Not sure if any of the scrappys up there sell to the public (I moved away in 05), might be worth going to have a check

Didn't even cross my mind to check at a dump shop. I'll give it a crack when I get some spare time and will report back here with my findings.
