I did search and might have missed it, but how exactly do you know if a Keg has been 'decommissioned'?

I assume it should be stamped as such by the original owner?

I'm on the lookout to get one for a boiler build, might as well be semi legit!

Any of the Aussie big boys almost never sell their kegs, they just go to scrap
I've never heard of an Aussie craft brewery selling theirs
Usually if they're from overseas, they'll be legal to purchase as it's too expensive to ship them back most of the time (and as long as you get a proper receipt)
If the naming is stamped over, it's most likely legal, if you get a certificate of decommission it's completely legal
Keg King sell properly decommissioned ones for under $100

I know blokes will "acquire" kegs from around the joint, personally I think if it's going to be done, don't take micro brewery kegs or from people like keg star
They cop a fair blow financially when their kegs go missing
That being said don't knock off kegs full stop

As they're effectively a pressure vessel I would assume they would need to be hole punched in the base for true decommissioning :think:

I haven't had a close look at a current keg, do they have test/retest expiry dates on them like most pressure vessels?

I got all my kegs @ auctions this makes them Legal :happy-partydance:

Got 9 50l kegs of cider ( see my posts) 450l of the shit but did some trading ie keg for parts and away you go :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Best kegs ever full of cider (cleaning runs)and clean some of the guys here got a couple.

So keep an eye on auction sites :D

He wants $50 for them, and has containers full of them. I can't vouch for the quality and I don't know the seller. But its not a bad price.
