Ratu rum

Postby Mossimo » Mon Nov 20, 2023 8:04 pm

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place for this question but... has anyone been able to replicate the taste of Ratu Rum? Or even come close?
I'm normally a whiskey drinker but this stuff is AMAZING I need to replicate it some how
Thanks in advance

I have never had this stuff, but now I want to try it. It's low ABV at 35% for a rum. Their website says that it's made from blending a bunch of other local rums through charcoaled coconut shells and then aging for 5+ years. Could be a little hard to replicate unless you have some time on your hands.

It is seriously some of the smoothest nicest rum I have ever tried,
I would invest 5 years into it if I could figure it out, surely the wealth of knowledge here, someone has done the hard yards

A guy at the local brew shop told me when I asked him about it said make up still spirits Navy rum and add one third bottle of still spirits coconut rum essence.
I haven't tried it to compare but Ratu rum is gods nectar!

They blend 4 different rums, it will be very hard to replicate as we don’t have the same sugar cane here. Time in a barrel does everything for Rum. I have met Lachy the head distiller a couple of times, knows his stuff.

Navy rum, plus coconut, then put in barrel maybe?

I'm away for work ATM but will get the essences when I get back and give an update

Ok,
Bit of an update, tried the essence mix above but.... nothing like Ratu,
However... did some experimentation, added some Vanilla bean and some molasses... makes something really nice...

When I have more time I'll make up 5 litres of this and throw it in a barrel, see what happens then

I mixed the essence as suggested,
The Vanilla and molasses I didn't measure, just kinda threw it in....
