Has anyone used Deb as a (potatoe) wash for a vodka wash?

Yes it could get VERY expensive when Deb finds out what you want to use her for :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Yeah quite exxy to use powdered potato, and wouldn't carry the flavour you really want anyway. Could try some washed cooked potatoes - roast em to caramelise them some, mash em up skin on (skins are where the flavour is at) and chuck that in for flavour? Maybe add a little rolled wheat? Suggest dextrose to hit the gravity target though for the less intensive "sugar wash" taste that regular white would give.

Half kilo of wheat would only be a few bucks (maybe use rolled oats?).
Potatoes, say 2kg aren't much either.
Probably want I dunno, 6kg, maybe 7 of dex for a 30L wash to hit around 1080? Depends how big a bag you buy but usually around 2-4 bucks a kilo.

Haven't tried it, just thinking out loud. Going to do a bunch of wheat based vodka starting in August, aiming for something similar to Absolut but using less winter wheat due to laziness on my part re just how much mashing the grain I'd have to do, and following my own advice above using dextrose to compensate (really does finish cleaner, all other parameters kept as equal as reasonably possible).

If you’re looking to make outstanding vodka, WBAB is an excellent place to start.

Dextrose is a waste of money for distilling purposes.

Just my 2c.

Plus 1 to what the professor said.

WBAB is a great vodka recipe and there is a reason it is in the tried and tested section. If you want to save yourself some money try these recipes first before trying to reinvent the wheel. I would be really surprised if you don’t like the results.

Def interesting idea how much is Deb per kilo of "made" potato vs malt landed? Can get expensive fast Deb would save whole lot processing and cartage cost basically just powdered starch.
