Grappa / Pomace Run advice

Postby R3dRanga » Fri May 10, 2024 1:59 pm

So a friend of mine is a wine maker - of the natural, organic variety. He makes lovely wine.

He recently gave me 30L of pomace to run for a grappa style output. I only have a 2" Boka reflux still so I gave it a go, knowing that a pot still would have been a better option. Not a good result! Very low yield and low quality. I suspect the starting ABV was only about 6%.

Any advise on whether another run is worth trying and what to adjust? Or no point on my reflux still? Another friend suggested I add bicarb to offset the sulphites.

Otherwise if someone has a pot still in the Newcastle NSW area and wants to try you'd be welcome give it a go.

There is a guide on here to run a boka as a pot if I remember correctly...
