looking at bits + pieces for my element controller, came across this....
looks like it might be a good way to measure load, what do the learned and wise think?
worthwhile or a waste of $12.99?

Don't hold your breath waiting for it, I ordered one on 5th October and still hasn't shown. Looks like it should do the job but won't be able to confirm whether it's junk or not till it's in my hands.

Worked fine on it's first run with the power meter. Showed a total power usage of 8.2kWh for a 40l bubbler run.

........... Or cost you $2.57 according to Perth Synergy prices.. (~ 25c per kwH)

Never really considered the cost of running the still........

Yeah similar prices over this side of the country. I reckon it's about half the cost of the bbq gas bottles I was using before but did cost more to setup.

Watt meter works well though for $12 delivered! No complaints here, time will tell whether it lasts.

How does this thing actually work?

It's just a voltmeter ammeter and power meter combined into one unit. It doesn't do anything just gives you a readout of what power is currently set and how much power has gone through it to the element.

Bought one of these contraptions on e(vil)Bay last night, along with an SCR. I'll post about my adventures with building it once it turns up.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Electrickery is all smoke and mirrors you know, drop it and you break a mirror then it wont work anymore.... let the smoke out and its broken and wont work anymore ;)
