So I just got hold of a 4" stainless ferrule so I can finally get access into the keg and attach the drain at the same time. But none of my boily mates have stainless Mig wire.

Will hard or soft solder do the job? Or should I just externally source someone to do it?

Personally I would get it tigged. Or buy a roll stsinless mig wire. Pretty sure bunnings sell small rolls of it..

So I've been a bit busy of late. Renovating a full kitchen and putting floorboards through the whole house. There's shit everywhere but I managed to do my 3rd gen (I ended up binning the trub) of MrsMacs Knockoff Bourbon and have enough to do a spirit run...if I ever get time with cleaning the whole house/patio/shed/garage with reno rubble.

So I currently have a functioning pot still, a half finished keg (which I don't want to touch until I do the spirit run).

I also have a half finished CCVM column (just need to make the packed section which a mate kindly donated me a whole box of copper scrubbers). And a half wound coil condenser.

But my offsider at work today dragged me out into the carpark before my shift today to give me a present.

It has a bit of damage in places but should be right. Looks like I'll be busy (in about 12 months) when I get to it!

Probably a bit backwards but an idea popped in my head this morning while I was rattling around at work.

Could you make a solid column 4" bubbler using glass tubing as windows instead of a protruding faced flat sight glass?

Make it so it looks a bit like a balaclava if that makes sense.

What I was planning was cutting the 3" or 4" hole to attach the site glass ferrule to... But slipping a glass sleeve inside above the plate.

The units on other sites using glass (Borosilicate = pyrex) have it a lot thicker than the display image, perhaps 5 or even 6mm thick to manage the stresses of clamping them down, then there are the seals you will need.

Might need to sketch a picture, i dont understand what you are trying to acheive, as it does not sound like you're wanting to make a glass walled module.

What would the advantage be?

Yea 3" glass tube all plates in single length. Hardest thing with doing what you say would be getting vapour proof seal between glass and copper/stainless. Maybe a classic glasser would suit you better?

Just sounds like a glasser to me.

Finally found myself a spare 10mins and quickly wound my first attempt at a double coil condenser.

I wrapped the first around the spear from the keg, and then I tried a paint roller (which was as unsuccessful after 2 winds) and ended up using a thin cardboard (which you can see still embedded in it in the pic).

I think it was a success but I can't be sure until I get a 2inch cap and some way to connect a hose to it. But a quick few puffs of air flowed through it really easy.



Now to get the cardboard out??? Burning?

So I only have one more ez flange ferrule to knock up on the packed section and then my CCVM for running neutrals will be finished.

No pics sorry... Hopefully get it finished tomorrow because I've started to run low of whiskey and have got some motivation back... For now.

Has anyone ever built their still and then thought, I think I might stick with my old T500 because I'm worried what I created won't work/as good??? And my T500 is just so easy to use.

You’ll get a better product out of the CCVM in a shorter time period. I think you’ll also find that the CCVM will be much easier to use than the T500. Hang in there man, you are almost done.

Just jumped out to the shed for 45min and knocked up the 2 eziflanges for the packed section. Now just let them cool, give them a hit with the grinder, attach my two hose connectors to the cool and I think I'm going to run the FFV wash that I put down 9 months ago through it as a sac run.

Oh wait, my mate took my keg to tig on a tap and 4inch opening :angry-banghead:

Well Birdman as you haven't put a location in your profile no'one knows where you are. Like if you're in SA I could weld up your boiler easily but not knowing where you are just gives a guess.

Had a quick play in the shed today.


Still no hose connections on the coil but that's only a quick task.

And I dropped my condenser by mistake and bent the ez-flange. Hopefully it didn't break the seal, although I'm thinking about trying to make another one... Just because.

Now when my mate finishes up on my keg I'll be able to do a clean run and strip my latest experiment
