My attempt at a pot (CCVM) still

Postby chipboy » Sat Apr 25, 2020 6:25 pm

Not quite he first but an attempt at good workmanship and doing things correctly, a CCVM, but starting at pot. Many others have done likewise and researching anything and everything I can,

Keg and first fitting started.

Hey chipboy
Are you using the existing thread on the top of the keg, what are you brazing the column to in the pic, is there a threaded fitting down inside the ferrule.
Cheers

Correct, butt soldered the copper to the pipe, my stuff up in ordering the tri clover fitting, so I had to do it the hard way. Easier to sleeve them if I had the option.

I am going to get some milk of magnesium to use it as a stop for the silver solder and make the next joint tidy, used white out and a highlighting marker pen this time which kind of worked. Put in a aluminium collar to align them, will do the other in a few hours and that is the column done, add stuffing if refluxing. I have a sight glass coming and will make a condenser coil to suite. Then build a Liebig or something more complicated!

The column, I looked at the second ferule with a magnifying glass and hope that there is solder in there.

Collars on, cap on top to keep geckos out, dirty little things.

Now for the keg.
