Have I understood how a Pot Still workes.
You put your wash in the Pot Still and it stills very quickly to about 40% then you put it in your Reflux with about 20 ltrs of water and restill, if so can I get a Pot Still made to fit on top of my Super Reflux Boiler. or am I just as well to Still twice
Thanks Griffo.

Hi Griffo,
depending on which type of reflux still you have, you can pull the packing out and it becomes a pot still ;)
as for adding 20L of water, that depends on your final ABV.
the reason being, that you dont want to put anything in your still that is greater than 40% ABV.
when i do a stripping run, i stop stripping at 20%, this leaves me with a final ABV of 40%, therefor i dont need to add any water ;)

That is one minor use of a potstil as a 'stripping still'.

There's plenty of other uses too, as a flavouring still where neutral is placed in at 40% with botanicals to make gin, akvavit, ouzo etc.

Then there's the main use of a potstill, to make whiskeys, rums, vodkas etc that blow the socks off most things made with a column still and topped up with essence to resemble theses products 8-)
